FINAL: Fourteen-year-old Brimfield High School students Sarah Leisinger, (left) and 14-year-old Katie Salem, both of Peoria, IL, talk after Salem presents her poem in front of the participants of the writing camp. Leisinger and Salem were also nominated “best roommates,” for the duration of the camp. The writing camp provided students writing and reading time in a range of writing styles, the opportunity to hone their writing skills under the guidance of NIU graduate students and the chance to hear feedback on their work. During the camp, the students stay in the dorms. For Leisinger and Salem, it may be too soon for them to embrace the idea of dorm living. “The showers were really touchy,” Leisinger said.
