Colleen Wallin, a senior geology major from Glendale Heights, shows her appreciation for her area of study with a campus rock. Her love for geology at first started with studying dinosaurs and then grew into a interest in mineralogy. She favors "hard rock" geology, the study of metamorphic or igneous rocks. "It's exciting when you can say where the rocks came from, where they originated," Wallin said. There is one drawback. "The hardest part of being a geologist is moving your rock collection," Wallin said. She explains that any trip she goes on, she can't help but to come home with several different rock samples. Sometimes this means returning with 30 pounds of rocks.
