Markus Mitchell of Chicago, Ill., is in his senior year, with a major in jazz studies. His influences include jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal and vibraphonist Stefon Harris. He describes his own playing on the piano as "smooth and balanced." Mitchell picked a major that was a natural fit for him. "Music is one of my love," Mitchell said. "This way I don't have to 'work.' I'm doing what I want anyway."
