Bill Sherman of Frankfort, Ill., a junior, picked NIU specifically for the world percussion program. Sherman was concentrating on the snare drum last year but this year finds himself working with the marimba. "It changes because I want to," Sherman said. The guest artists that visit campus provide Sherman with inspiration. "After I hear them I get an itch to go practice." This "itch" started when Sherman was in 3rd grade and his grandfather brought him was brought to a performance of Marine Corp Band, referred to as "The President's Own." Sherman was hooked. He started in playing in band in fifth grade and has been in band ever since.
