Sociology alum of 1997 Gavin Engel of Wheaton, Ill., poses with his mentee, anthropology major Michelle Delgadillo of Stickney, Ill. Engel and Delgadillo were matched up through the NIU student alumni mentoring program and the experience proved to be a help to both. Delgadillo said she gained help with questions about graduate school, Engel said it helped connect him back with the university. He also enjoyed giving the time to give recommendations to Delgadillo and pass along "life lessons."
