Junior geography major Earle Isibue of Popular Grove, IL, calls out to passing attendees during Undergraduate Research and Artistry day as he stands by his project “LiDAR Mapping for Merged Interior and Exterior 3-D Modeling.” He is carrying the LiDAR mapping device, which measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser light. The laptop he is carrying shows the passers-by a digital, 3-D version of themselves on his screen. His project includes 3-D models of the buildings on campus, which is the result of exploring and seeing the buildings on campus in a way he never had. “I’ve been in every stairway,” Isibue said. “I really started to see things and began seeing how space is related.” And he likes being able to show people these things. “This is geography people!” Isibue said. “It’s not just about maps!”
