FINAL: Senior communication studies major Darius Blanks of Harvey, IL, said his grandmother is the parental influence in his life. “My grandma is a huge stickler on education,” Blanks said. “She pushed me throughout my life to go the highest of heights.” But even with her persistent push to achieve the highest education Blanks was capable of, she showed some reluctance when Blanks was heading off to NIU. “She didn’t want me to leave,” Blanks said. “I’m the youngest and the last to leave the house. And she was worried.” But Blanks said she was quick to change her opinion once she came to visit. “She’s been on campus to see me a few times and now knows I’m safe and okay. “ And she continues her support for Blanks in his college endeavors. “She’s my all. I love her.”
