FINAL: Kristin Murrell co-director of the All-University Steel Band ensemble and second-year grad student in music and steel pan from Port-of-Spain, Tobago, leads the ensemble during a dress rehearsal for their afternoon performance inside the recital hall of the music building. The piece was one that Murrell arranged. “NIU is the place to be!” Murrell said, referencing to NIU being one of the few institutions in the world to offer the steel drum as an undergraduate and graduate major. “The professor [head of Percussion and Steel Pan Studies and Professor of Music Liam Teague,] has a reputation for being one of the best in the world. Who wouldn’t want to study with him?”
